Adaptive Technology (AT)

The Adaptive Technologies Computing Lab offers
UCI students, faculty, and staff an opportunity
to learn and use state-of-the-art adaptive technology.
The goal of the Adaptive Technologies Computing
Lab is to provide persons with disabilities with
a means of achieving independence in their academic
work or in the work place. For this reason, new
or updated equipment is secured each year.

The DSC can also have other accessible software
for word prediction, grammar check and spell check
available for student use. In addition, DSC can
also have keyboard, mouse, workstation/tables
and other ergonomic needs available for use.
The Adaptive Technologies Computing Lab is equipped
to access UCInet and the Internet.
Consultation is available to determine appropriate
technology to meet disability-related needs including
visual impairments, hearing impairments, learning
disabilities, speech impairments, mobility or
dexterity limitations such as carpel tunnel syndrome.
We will also work with professors and TAs who
want to provide computer access for persons with
disabilities in specific courses or in computer
labs on the campus. Faculty and staff with disabilities
may contact us for assistance.
We have extensive information about hardware
and software designed specifically for computer
access by persons with disabilities.
Lab staff will provide extensive training and
demonstrations in the use of assistive technology.
Both the training and the demonstrations are offered
to groups and individuals upon request.
