General Information
At UC Irvine, providing equal opportunities for students with disabilities is a campus-wide responsibility
and commitment. The Disability Services Center supports the University's goal of promoting individual
growth and development, civility, and diversity by providing disability-related programs and services.
The Disability Services center provides and coordinates support services and prorams that enable students
with disabilities to maximize their educational potential. DSC serves as a resource for the entire
University community, so that students with disabilities can freely and actively participate in all facets
of University life.

| SERVICES |
 |
DSC provides services to students with documented permanent and temporary deisabilities. Services
include reasonable accommodations, auxiliary aids,
and individualized support services based on your
disability documentation, funtional limitations,
and a collaborative assessment of needs.
It is your responsibility to arrange for certain
services which are outside the scope of the Disability
Services Center. These services include attendant
care, mobility training, and sources of financial
aid.

- Pre-admission and pre-enrollment planning
- Priority registration for classes
- Disability management counseling
- Liaison to faculty
- Notification to your professors that you
have a disability (only upon your request)
- Specialized individual or group orientation
to campus
- Advice on classroom accommodations
- Assistance to faculty and staff to work
effectively with students with disabilities
- Tutoring referral
- Assistive technology (e.g., computer equipment,
tape recorders, etc.)
- Liaison with the California Department of
Rehabilitation
- Maintenance of a loan library of resources
including product catalogues and lists of
organizations
- Use of the Disability Services Center's
Adaptive Technologies Lab and the adaptive
technologies stations located in the UCI Libraries

- Testing accommodations (e.g., extendend
time, separate room)
- Notetaking services
- Readers
- Scribes
- Sign language interpreters
- Assistive listening devices
- Real-time captioning services
- Preferential seating in class
- Assistance in receiving books on tape
- Document conversion; books and other course
materials in alternative formats (e.g., enlarged,
Braille, cassette, computer media)
- Priority housing
- Accessible Parking

| PARKING |
 |
Accessible parking spaces close to classrooms
and offices are located throughout campus. Students
with permanent or temporary disabilities may qualify
to use disability parking spaces on campus. Students
with temporary conditions may qualify to use disability
spaces for a limited time period. Contact DSC
to apply.

| TRANSPORTATION |
 |
Available fixed-route, wheelchair-accessible
transportation includes the campus shuttle bus
service, Orange County Transit Authority (OCTA)
buses, and OCTA "Access" Service vans,
which travel to most Orange County locations.

| ADAPTIVE COMPUTING TECHNOLOGY |
 |
The Disability Services Center offers use of
adaptive equipment and supportive computer technology
in its computer lab and at computer stations at
other campus locations. It provides screen reading,
screen magnification, learning assistance, and
scan-and-read software for student use. Adaptive
equipment, including a Romeo Brailler, scanners,
ergonomic keyboard/mice, and adaptive furniture
(e.g., adjustable height tables, ergonomic chairs)
are also available.

| ELIGIBILITY FOR SERVICES |
 |
Students who experience any type of disability,
including temporary disability, are eligible for
support services. To qualify, you must supply
documents to verify your disability and support
your request for accommodation. Contact the Center
to determine the type of documentation required.
